My DS 5 has constant massive tonsil - he has had several bouts of tonsilitis. He snores a lot, always complains about sore throat and hurting when he swallows.
He also has started slurping when reading.
When i saw the GP the last time he had tonsilitis i was told they dont refer unless he'd had 10 lots of tonsilitis in 2 years - this seems rather a lot to me.
Any advice or comments anyone?
I had tonsils out at 6 and it made such a difference to me - my hearing improved and i stopped getting continued tonsilitis and stopped having time off school.

It does sound a lot, poor litttle lad. The thinking on having tonsils out has changes since we were kids - there is a chance, however slight that you could die under the unaesthetic, so they don't operate on every other child anymore. Most children grow out of having bad tonsils ; the tonsils are at their biggest at around ages 5-7 then they start to shrink. This is something to do with the immune system, which has primed itself by this time. So his problems should start to dissipate. Sorry thats not very helpful to you, but basically, it will probably start to improve in the next couple of years, and if not, and he starts missing a lot of school, go back to the GP (or a different one).
