Could this be an allergic reaction 4 days later?

DD1 is 5. On monday I put some suncream on her face, I am sure she has had the same brand before but she seemed a bit blotchy at the end of the day so she had a bath and has had no more on since.
Her face has got 'rougher' over the week until today when it is noticeably rough and blotchy. It's not single spots so much as lots of little ones all together. She says it doesn't hurt or itch, and isn't fiddling with it so I believe her but it feels awfully dry and looks very strange.

Considering it is now friday and I have to wait until monday for docs anyway, is there anything I can try over the weekend to see if it helps?

No, don't think so, true allergies are much more rapid onset.

It could be an intoerance to the suncream, which wouldn't need medical attention. I would let it heal possibly trying some aqueous cream to helpmositurise if it is dry, but not if the skin is broken.

thanks HLL, I didn't think it was an allergic reaction but couldn't figure out what it could be! Intolerance makes a bit more sense
Skin isn't broken so will get to chemists in the morning and pick up some cream, thanks.

thanks guys, my poor pretty girl is all blotchy faced, I must fix it, it makes her misbehaviour in public so much easier to shrug offGrin

Was the first one excema and the second allergy pixie?
ilithias DD sounds a bit like a mixture of the two. You can get contact dermatitis which is not the same as the usual kiddie excema.

ilythia · 15/04/2011 20:52

I'd say the second tbh, hang on, I got a pic earlier. It's not as bad as the forst, no broken skin which is why I am not unduly bothered, she does have history of impetigo though.

Thanks! so just wash it and leave to see if it clears then? She would pick this week, I haven't been able to wash ehr properly all week as we have ripped out the bathroom, typical. Bath tomorrow morning then.
I just thought, I also nit combed her with new conditioner on wednesday, she was a bit red but it got much worse on thursday, so shall dump that as well just in case.

Am in agreement with pixie after seeing pics. Contact dermatitis, dry, a bit irritable and diffuse. Very careful skin care as some things will irritate it further!
Quite like playing spot the rash but verbal descriptions are a nightmare - a photo def paints a thousand words!

ilythia · 15/04/2011 22:46

Thanks, MN is so helpful!
So just washing with water and leaving it?

Hi hope DDs skin better, should also have said if no improvement to go to GP!
I work all weekend - how rubbish is that! Sad

ilythia · 18/04/2011 08:17

It seems a bit better, nothing went on at the weekend, sunhats and staying in was not popular. Her cheeks have cleared up and she just has a bit of dry skin round her lips so will leave it for now and just chuck that suncream out

Sounds brilliant - there are hypo allergenic suncreens and plenty of mums here to give advice.
