Giving baby medicine for teething, please help!

Hello,

My 4 month old is teething. One tooth has come through already and I can see another 2 about to burst through. They're giving him so much trouble, he screams and chews his hands. I've given him teething gel but found that as much stays on my finger as goes on his gums. I've tried the powder but I find it really difficult to get it on his tongue and most of it dissolves on my finger or around his mouth.

My last resort has been to give him baby nurofen but even that doesn't work. I tried using a spoon but he doesn't understand and just tries chewing the spoon and lets the medicine dribble out. I've tried a syringe (sp?) but he either gags on it cos it's too far back or just spits out any medicine. Either way, the majority of the medicine ends up dribbling down his chin!! I even tried dipping a dummy in some medinice and seeing if he'd lick it off but he just chomps on it!

I really don't know what else to try. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Please help, he really needs something as he's getting really upset by it.

I found that Ambesol really worked for both of mine. It comes in a little bottle and you just rub in on the gums. Good luck x

I really wanted to know if anyone had any tips for getting baby to take medicine without half of it dribbling down his chine, either with syringe or spoon or some other way?

How are you using the syringe? I found it best to stick it into DS's cheek so it wasn't going directly down his throat and making him gag or cough. And squeeze it in fairly slowly, holding him in a slightly reclined position. Easier said than done, I know, with a crying baby!
When he's 6 months old, try Bickiepegs. They are really hard biscuity things and DS loved to chew on them when he had teeth coming through. Only recommended for over 6 months though.

We try that but it just pours out of his mouth. I really think I must be doing it wrong...

I have found that I get the teat from the top of a baby bottle and have the measured dose of medicine in there and baby will suck the medicine. Some times I have to be quick with a bottle of milk/juice or water on stanby so that baby hasnt got time to protest. One has to be quick in conning baby!
