My poor dd has some sort of urinary problem. It has been recurring for nearly a year.

She needs the toilet lots but it stings when she goes and there is only a dribble when she goes.

It sounds like cystitis to me but I am obviously not a doctor.

We have taken her to the doctor several times and have sent samples away which always come back as nothing conclusive.

They often give her a course of antibiotics just in case and it clears up after a few days.

I also usually give her cymalon and lots of cranberry juice and encourage her to drink as much water as she can.

Is there something I am missing? Is there more I can do to relieve (excuse the pun) her symptoms?

Does anyone have any ideas why this would keep coming back?

Is there anything she is using that could be irritating her urethra? - scented bubble baths, shower gels. Washing powder or fabric softener used on her underwear that could be irritating. Make sure she doesn't over wash her private parts with soaps etc. And of course remind her about wiping herself from front to back. (you probably know all this, but thought I'd mention just in case Smile)

I would definitely persist with the doctor (if its clearing up with AB's, it does sound as if she's got an infection)

As a little practical tip, - I've found in the past that using a bottle of water (one of those with a squeezy top) and squirting it over the area when urinating, can relieve the stinging a bit.

Hope she gets it sorted out soon, poor lamb - it's sore and miserable I know.

Thanks for the tips Easter.

She can't use any soaps or showergels as they do irritate her down below. She did go on a sleep over though the night before last and they did have a bath together so that might be the culprit this time.

I will reiterate the wiping front to back though as that is where I think the problem lies now that you mention it.

I have just found a squirty bottle while cleaning out the car so I will give it a thorough wash and suggest it to her. I can see how that would help. Poor kid.

That is really helpful. Thank you.
