Choking on solids - 7 month

My DS seems to choke an awful lot, by this I mean gagging for 30 - 40 secs with forehead & nose turning blue before he settles down or vomits even with purees. It is not a new problem but much more noticeable since starting to 'bulk up' his purees. To be honest even as a newborn he used to wake up coughing and choking for no apparent reason. GP has referred him to peds but waiting on appointment. I have an older DS and am following weaning guildelines so am sure it is not a problem with what I am feeding him, he also does this with milk and has done since being little. He had a heart echo as a newborn for other symptoms and this was fine.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I don't know if this is relevent, but babies have a gag reflex which is much further forward than adults - it's assumed it evolved this way to make them choke-up or emit foods more readily as they are being weaned. Is your DS's perhaps just a particularly sensitive gag reflex?

I had wondered about that, I know I am being over anxious as they pediatricans made a big fuss over him when he was born although he is fine now I feel I am always extra worried, it just the blue forehead and nose that worries me. It probably is gag reflex sometimes its hard to take a step back, I will mention that when we are at GP, thanks for replying Smile
