Dry scaly patches of skin, plus spots

My 15mo DS has got several dry scaly patches of skin, on arms and legs. Dr Google suggests this may be ringworm as patches are circular (he's in nursery, so anything infectious is almost a given), but he's also got red/dry skin behind knees, which suggests may be eczema-like instead. He also seems to have lots of little spots on face - which could be related, or could be to do with constant snot from cold/drool from teething wiped over face.

Not sure whether to try an anti-fungal cream for scaly patches, to see if it helps, or if this could make it worse if eczema.

I know the obvious answer is to take him to the Dr, but it's a nightmare arranging this around work - and as its not bothering him at the moment I feel I'd be wasting their time! FWIW, I've got pretty dry skin, so I'll not be surprised if he's got similar.

Any ideas?

Hi flight no help I am afraid but I am watching with interest as my dd (2) has exactly the same thing! She started getting what looks like eczema in the straight crease lines behind her knees a few weeks ago and I noticed today that she also has small round scaly points on her legs ( i thought of ringworm too but they are very small). We have also had the spots on face for a little while which I did take her to the docs for. Doc thought it was thrush (bit wierd on cheeks I thought) but gave her some canasten cream with hydro cortisol which def clears it but seems to come straight back. She is also teething and just seems a bit run down at the moment. Lots of recent problems with runny nappies and general no herselfness. Am hoping someone comes along with some great ideas soon!

Does sound very similar.
I'm going to have a go with an anti-fungal. Then see how he is after a break from the germ warfare that is nursery after Easter!

creases behingd the knees are indicative of eczema. dicoid eczema is in circles. Is it like this[http://www.rash-pictures.com/category/4/]

Nowhere near that bad - does look more like the picture of ringworm in my case.
Hope its not eczema - I know there are far, far worse things, glad he's generally OK etc etc - but don't want to be stuck with years of lotions/potions/itching/scratching/having to avoid stuff.

Wow some of those photos are seriously horrid! No ours nothing like that over here either. I've just changed back to non bio fairy liquid to see if that helps. Nothing showing on backs of legs tonight although as of this morning she has a sore area in crease of her mouth and am slightly worried it could be a cold sore.. Neither DH or I suffer though so am desperately hoping its due to the copious amount of dribble from these big teeth fighting their way through. flight agree nursery is a bug nightmare!

I have dry skin too and also suffered from eczema as a child although it went when I was still young. I dont remember it being very bad either. Maybe try some Olatum in the bath? I'm going to get her some tomorrow... Good luck!

try aveeno bath oil, it also helps with the itching

Sounds like psoraisis, often round, with white flaky skin and red underneath. Torso is a common place.
