Excessive wind - any tips?

Hi

I wondered if any of you have tips for helping with a very windy baby. My daughter is three months old and breastfed. She has suffered from wind since birth but recently it has been even worse at night with the result that neither of us is getting much sleep. I've tried gripe water and Infacol but they didn't make a difference. When I put her to bed I have to keep on picking her up to burp her so I'm stuck up in her bedroom for most of the evening. Then from 4am onwards she has trapped farts and the only way she can get comfy is if I hold her. Sometimes the wind is so bad I can't even feed her properly. The recent bad patch has coincided with a move from swaddle blanket to sleeping bag so perhaps I'll go back to swaddling...is there an age limit for this though? I'll be swaddling until she is 18 years old!!

I would really appreciate any tips or just to know if other people have experienced it and when their babies grew out of it.

Thank you from a distressed mother and baby!

Hi, have you tried altering your diet at all? When my baby was little, up to about 4 or 5 months, I had to stop eating garlic (oh the tragedy!), too many onions, or, though I was never so sure of this one, chilli's because it gave him such bad wind in the night. That kind of wind wasn't helped by burping him it just came out the other end with much kicking of legs. In relation to burping after feeding at night I always fed til he was asleep then held him upright really tight against me to put slight pressure on his tummy and rocked back and forth and side to side for about a minute, we could get some pretty good burps that way, without waking him either. He was quite scrunched up from birth so I always tried to straighten him out to let the air get out from his tummy, such as holding him up by holding under his arms, probably not very scientific but it always felt like it helped!

Hi.
Responding abit late maybe but i dont often get the time to browse mn much these days.

My dd has suffered wind since birth which got worse when we started weaning her at 6 months. DD also breastfed only. I tried gripe water etc but did not work then i tried drops called windypops which worked well. We then decided to also see a Homeopath and we gave dd a homeopathic remedy and after a few days of taking it there has been a significant difference. She is not waking up in pain crying anymore! which is bloody brilliant. We where both so tired and grumpy.

I hope you find a solution soon as i know how strssful it can be! Good luck. x

What did they give you arsenicandoldlace? Sounds like I could do with some for DS ;)

Hi,
my DD suffered from bad winds too. I would recommend Baby Stomach Ease Tea as it really has helped her a lot.

BoSho - It was Dics 30c, but the homeopath took an extensive history - an hour consultation.

Its the first time i have seen one, we have also been to a craniel osteopath which helped too. Dh and i are now officially SKINT! but have had better sleep and lots more smiles from dd so can honestly say it was worth it Grin
