7 month old out of sorts...

DS is a robustly healthy 7 month old, he's never had a cold and other than very mild jaundice when he was born and very mild eczema, he's never had a thing wrong with him.

Over the last couple of weeks he's gotten a bit picky about eating his purees at meal times, particularly the warm ones (still happy with cold/room temp things like fromage frais or mashed bananas etc). He's just gotten two teeth through, though, and I assumed that it was sore gums that was making him a bit reluctant to eat anything warm.

That seemed to be the end of it, but today he's thrown up two of his bottles, projectile style. He's kept down solids and a bottle of juice so I don't think he's dehydrated. He also doesn't have a temperature and aside from being a wee bit cranky he seems otherwise ok.

Our GP is a bit crap and I know if I phoned them they'd probably tell me to head down to casualty. Does this sound necessary to you? If the consensus is that I should go, then I will but I'd rather not trek across town with the buggy and potentially be there for hours if this is unlikely to be anything serious.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but he's never had anything wrong with him before so I'm not sure how you're supposed to decide if it's serious enough to need to see a medical professional or when to just sit it out and hope it's just a tummy upset. Could this be reflux?

Thanks!

Thanks Pixie - I just managed to get through to one of the health visitors (who tend to be a bit more sensible than our GP) and they've told me to just keep giving him juice to stop him getting dehydrated and to try milk again tomorrow morning. It's horrible though, he's so out of sorts, cranky and won't take a nap, teething on top of everything else and I've had to change our bed sheets, his cot sheets, my clothes, his clothes etc several times today and mop up puddles of regurgitated milk...I'm knackered! Luckily DH has gotten home from work now and he's got DS in the bath at the minute to try and get him to chill out...with mixed results from the sound of things.

Hope this is just a 24 hour thing and he's back on form tomorrow.

Just a thought - I've got some Aptamil comfort milk left from when he had problems getting his wind up and I was trying everything. Would this be something to try - might be easier to digest than his usual formula?

Anyway, thanks again for the advice!!

Thanks for the MN hug Wink

It's been that kind of a day! Oh good idea with the towels, I'd really rather not strip the cot down again tonight!!

DS managed to keep down a small bowl of porridge for dinner and some juice so I think he's slightly improving, tho his tummy was still pretty gurgly afterwards. But he went down to sleep about half 7 - my only dilemma now is that we usually pick him up about half 10 and give him a bottle of that good night milk stuff which gets him through the night until about 7am.

Not sure whether it would be too heavy and likely to upset his tummy to give that to him tonight, but i know if I don't he'll probably be awake in the middle of the night starving!! Might try the Aptamil comfort stuff and see how that goes down.

Thanks again Brew here's a MN brew for you!

DS is much better today btw - still a bit subdued and a bit off his food but he's taking plenty of juice and keeping down plain, small portions of solids so he seems to be on the mend again.

Really glad he's starting to come back round to his old self and also...so glad not to have to look at any more vomit today!!!

Tx again for your help :)
