Strawberry birthmark and the sun

My DD has a strawberry birthmark at the top of her arm, it is usually covered by even a short sleeved top. Today she has been wearing something sleeveless, but I worried whether it should be covered by clothes or whether cream is enough (I actually left a layer of cream un-rubbed in over it). does anyone know?

My DD had one further down on her arm and we were never told to cover it up completely, but just applied cream to that area as we would everywhere else.
Some say it reacts to the sun by getting a little puffed up, but I've never noticed it on my DD.

phew, ok thanks
No one (HCP or otherwise) has ever mentioned it to us really, other than to say it will be gone by the time she's 1/2/at school, and to be careful not to knock it!
Have you ever noticed they are really hot!

Cannot say I had ever noticed it do anything other than change size for the first few months. After it had stopped growing and stayed the same (about the size of a 20 pence coin) for a while, it had finally started getting paler and shrinking. My DD is now 5.5 and if you look very very hard you can still see and feel it, but it's more or less gone now. We never made a big deal out of it (think the location was quite lucky), but she actually started crying the other day saying she wants it back Wink.

OOH Thanks I was wondering the same, but DD2's one is not covered by short sleeves.
She does try to pick it out though (14 months) any advice? I ignore her for now and she stops relatively quickly.

Yes DD2 was hot when younger, but it is already fading.

Afraid, no advice here for how to stop them from picking it, my DD hardly paid any attention to hers.... until it was gone....

However, we're now expecting DD2 and I'm wondering whether she'll have one too. Our DS (who'll be in the middle) never had one.

I have one on my scalp and it still gets hot now.

When it was raised I don't remember ever doing anything different with it in the sun!
