What's wrong with my DS (5) - glands up, can't make sense of other symptoms!

DS is 5.1 and his glands are really up.

2 weeks ago, I noticed he was tired and thought that it was because he was near the end of term. He went to school fine for Mon-Thurs but then the school called to say that he had a high temp and that he could come back the next day if he was fine in himself. Woke up Fri and temp totally vanished, totally fine, full of energy so went to school and teacher said he was fine all day. Glands were up though. Continued to be totally fine and lots of energy, went to school etc, for another full week but glands up the whole time. Yesterday we went out and he started complaining that his leg hurt so we carried him to the car and went home. Had a mild temperature but quite acute pain in knee(s)? We are sure he didn't hurt himself as we were with him the whole time yesterday. Woken up today, glands up, legs hurting but no temp and he is lively. What's wrong with him - would be really grateful for any ideas. His glands are massive!

My DS's glands seem to be perpetually up! Doc says he's just fighting germs!!! He had a virus earlier this year and afterwards his legs hurt (knees and ankles) for about a week, so much so one day that he could hardly walk. Doc said this was a post viral condition called transient sinovitis (I think that was it) it dissappeared after a week. Their symptoms are baffling sometimes...get him checked over for your peace of mind. Sure it will be ok xx

sounds like he is just fighting something off. My DS is a very "glandy" child, and his swell up at the slightest thing. He also gets post viral pain in his legs, which lasts up to a week. If you're worried, pop him to the GP and have him checked, but I'm sure he'll be fine

Because he is having randomly raised temperatures as well, I'd take him to the GP and get him checked over - get blood tests done as well. It's probably just a virus but it's as well to make sure.

I will take him to the GP. The legs sound like rattlesnake's DS - yesterday it was knees and today it's ankles hurting.

My dd has had constant pain for 3 weeks and last week she got diagnosed with tonsillitis. She has something else wrong which is causing the pain but we had totally missed the tonsillitis.

greencaveman · 11/04/2011 21:06

Took him, it's viral tonsillitis! Does anyone know how contagious it is and how long it takes to get better?

glad you got a diagnosis - I don't know the answer to your Qu, sorry, but am very grateful to you for posting this in terms of future information :)
Hope he gets better soon.
