My 17 month old is quite prone to chest infections and has just been given antibiotics for another one. His chest is rattley and he has a persistent wheeze.
He was hospitalised at 3 weeks old with bronchilolitis and I have read that there could be a link with asthma later on?

Unsure if I should be concerned?

If he's wheezing it's worth seeing a doctor/asthma nurse and asking if they think he would benefit from having a blue (salbutamol) inhaler.

Thanks, will do that. Doctor today just said they wait till 2 before diagnosing asthma.

My ds was very wheezy about the same age. He had a blue pump short term. He is now a healthy 9 year old with no asthma

They can have a blue inhaler without having a diagnosis of asthma. It can be given to relieve symptoms regardless of the underlying cause.

Lots of babies/toddlers can have viral wheeze or bronchiolitis without having asthma.

I agree with the others sounds like he may benefit from an inhaler.

Ds is the same age and has been diagnosed with asthma and the inhalers have made a massive difference for him.

Hi, DD2 was in PICU with bronchiolitis at 3 weeks. She was left with 'asthma type condition' (they don't label it asthma when they're little but treat it the same) which is treated with brown and blue inhalers. She's now 3.5 and considerably better but still gets quite bad with coughs and colds. So yes, there is a link between the two but they can grow out of it.

If you've got to 17months without too many problems it's likely to be quite mild but absolutely worth getting it checked out with your GP. Inhalers made a huge difference to DD and stopped the mad rush to A & E every few months for nebulisers.
