I have heard Tesco own baby sunscreen is the best at 4 rated but does anyone have any other recommendations as I don't want to have to repeatedly smother her or look like she's been swimming in greasepaint! Any advice much appreciated!

Boots baby sunscreen is good as my little one's skin didn't like anything else until she was older - but you can now get a 'once' sunscreen for children that last all day. Think I bought it in boots? Best thing ever on days out, hols etc.

Watching with interest.....

We use boots soltan with no problems.

I don't trust once suncreams for me so wouldn't use them on Ds but that's just personal choice!

Am well placed to answer this as I live in an impossibly hot country with two small, very fair skinned children. Grin

My main advice to you would be to try whatever you get on your own face first because a lot of even the baby and child sunscreens sting on application.

Although the aerosol sprays are easier to apply they simply don't give the same protection as a cream.

The one my children like best is the Banana Boat Kids cream with No Tears formula. It is in a bright yellow tube.

I have 2 fair skinned, red heads and use proderm baby sun block and proderm sun mousse for kids. It's pricey (£9-£15), Boots sell it at £15. It's worth every penny, my girls don't change colour when they use this and it even stops freckles coming out. I wouldn't use any other product, it's the only sun screen product that absorbs into all layers of skin and they have never even had a tinge of colour in the sun when used. Check it out at Boots. It was developed for children with eczema and allergy to sun tan lotion.

Badger Sunscreen spf 30 - completely natural - no chemical UV absorbers. Zinc oxide is the barrier ingredient. I've been using it for my 2 boys for years now (and for me!) and its great. Stickier and whiter than some of the more commercial ones but I'm happy with the trade off because I don't want the nasties on my baby thank you very much :)

Badger ingredients fyi:

Active Sunscreen Ingredient: Non-Nano, Uncoated Zinc Oxide 18.75%

Inactive Sunscreen Ingredients: Olea Europaea (Extra Virgin Olive) Oil, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Butter, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Essential Oil of Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender), Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), and CO2 Extracts of *Hippophae Rhamnoides (Seabuckthorn).

  • = Certified Organic

Just so you can compare it to the others :)

Thanks everyone who's replied - I'll definitely take it all into consideration! :)
