"Ear Alarm"

DS is 5yo. Occasionally he complains about an "alarm going off" in his ear. He says loud noises makes it worse. He has had his hearing test not long ago and it didn't show any concerns. Am Confused, anyone have any experience?

It sounds like tinnitus.
I get it a lot, but have learned to put up with it to some degree.
Congestion can make it worse, is he often coldy/snotty?

I have noticed he complains more when he is under the weather. Is it something I should be making a doctors app for?

yes, I would
I was that child, but I remember weird noises before I could even talk & explain like yr DS

catinthehat - what happened with you, if you don't mind me asking?

colds every 2 weeks as a little one
constantly ill & snotty & blocked up nose & ears
there was little that docs did in those days except suggest a trip to the seaside

but it sounds like he is a crappy catarrhal person like I was
the differnce is I bet it is more treatable now

He is rarely ill... and if he is it's over within a day (unlike me, who will catch it and be laid up for a week). At most he seems tired/under the weather rather than ill. Rarely has a snotty nose. Although if he does get ill, it will always be his throat/tonsils.

I still get a pingggggggg sound in my ears if I am really tired out, after all these years.

if you don't want to take him to the docs just yet, I would diarise it so you can see if it's connected to being knackered at school or having a cold or just being winter, might put your mind at rest, partic. if he's had an ear exam and all is OK

I also get sore ears in the cold as did my granny, so I will often stick a little bit of cotton wool in there to keep things warm in the winter, recommend that little trick

My DS had the exact same "car alarm" thing about 3 weeks ago. The car alarm then turned into "rice krispies popping" in his ears. It turned out to be an ear infection after 2 visits to the doctors (the first time the doctor couldn't see anything). It's all cleared up now after some antibiotics.

Spoken to the school and they said he can be reluctant to take part in activities sometimes because he says it's too loud Sad

Booked in at the doctors.

Thank you for the responses.
