Tips for applying sun screen to small babies please

DD is six months and so far I haven't applied any sunscreen, just kept her out of the sun between 11 and 3 and used the hood on her pram, a sun hat and a parasol at other times. Now that its a bit sunnier should I be using sunscreen as well in case any rays hit her?

I have bought Johnson's baby factor 50 and have tried a bit on her hand to check for allergic reactions but I am a bit unsure of where and when i should apply it. Does one application in the morning do as she will be mainly out of the sun? Does it need to be on the areas already covered by clothes?

Also if I am applying it to her face is there any tips to stop her getting it in her eyes?

Thanks.

I actually would say no, just keep her out of the sun. If the rays do 'hit' her by accidend, it'll be fine and good for her IMO, but only in moderation obviously.

In this country unless very hot I generally let Ds play out for half an hour or so early in the morning without any on as some sun is good for them. Then I cover the areas which aren't covered by clothes - did the same last summer when he was same age as you lo and had no problems.

When abroad I covered him from head to toe before getting dressed then topped up the areas not covered by clothes at dinner time and after we had been in the pool.

at that age I used to cover up dd in light cotton clothes and used a shade-a-babe on the pushchair. they need a little uv light on their skin.
