5yo with 5 days of diarrhoea

Middle of the night, worried Mum post!

DD has had diarrhoea for the past 5 days, around 3 to 4 episodes a day, not feeling unwell until cramping a minute or two before she rushes to the toilet. She's eating and drinking normally and doesn't look unwell.

Was planning on taking her to dr on Monday, should I do anything before then? Any good remedies / diet tips or advice?

Could try drinking flat coke. It's said that there are so many chemicals in it it just kills off the bugs and all the sugar works like Dioralyte. It's the ONLY time my kids ever get coke. Also used it as a remedy myself and it seems to help. And steer clear of dairy for a while.

It it persists may be worth checking she's not developed an intolerance to something she consumes regularly.

Hope she's on the mend very soon.

Keep her off everything except dry bread/really plain biscuits (rich tea or arrowroot) and water for a day - usually allows the gut enough time to pass whatever it is AND settle down/stop being irritated.
Fat irritates the gut and keeps the motility going, so at least remove as much fat from the diet as possible.

I would give flat lucozade rather than coke - better for the electrolyte balance.

I had rotovirus food poisoning once - awful, comes out both ends spasmodically - but a day on water and dry biscuits sorted me out in that the following day I was good to go again; whereas my friend who caught it at the same place as I did, tried to keep eating/drinking normally and was still suffering 3 days later.

Good luck!
