Pretty sure youngest DD has conjunctivitis and secondary chest infection. Asthma has been really bad recently and she's been sleeping loads (hooray! Blush ) with a streaming nose (nice) but today she woke up with eyes stuck together with bright green gunk, which needs removing every 15 mins and quite a temperature.

I know she'll need mess for the eyes, but can it wait til Monday?
Doesn't seem very serious but I always worry about getting it wrong with very little ones Blush

Great. Hope all goes well.

just checking back and yes, she needs checking out. it takes alot of a baby to have laboured breathing and it's always best to get them seen asap.

winnybella · 04/04/2011 09:22

How is she today?

Gracie123 · 04/04/2011 12:12

Right. Just got back from hospital. Turns out she'd been misdiagnosed and the paediatrician doesn't think she has asthma at all (hence inhalers not really helping).

He's given her new inhalers and saline solution to inhale 4x daily and want to see us again in a week.

Massive imporvement though, I think it's the healthiest I've ever seen her look! He did some patting thing on her back and he bought up giant balls of mucus, so I'm not really surprised. Her O2 saturation was very low and still a high respiratory rate, but massively better than it was.

Thanks for all you help ladies Smile

So if she doesn't have asthma, what are the inhalers for? And does she have a chest infection or not?

Poor you, whole night in A&E.

blinks · 04/04/2011 13:48

am hugely relieved you took her to be seen, gracie...

is she generally well aside from this?

Gracie123 · 04/04/2011 13:51

We saw about four different doctors and they all kept saying at this stage they are reluctant to diagnose Confused

To be honest I was so glad to leave and see her looking so much better that I didn't question too much.

They're going to continue to see her as an out patient and I guess they'll diagnose something when theyve seen how she responds to treatment? We have to go back on Friday, but consultant said he'd want to be seeing her regularly over the next year to keep an eye on how things develop.

Feel like a bit of a crappy mum for not taking her sooner, but just don't like to waste doctors time if there might be nothing wrong IYSWIM? Blush

In fairness I have taken her to GP for breathing problems before and he didn't seem too concerned. How was I supposed o know that we needed a Pediatric specialist?

does she get recurring illnesses/infections? it's very difficult, esp when you have asthma in the family, to know when to seek help so try not to beat yourself up about it.

Gracie123 · 04/04/2011 20:01

She has seen the GP with recurrent chest infections since birth, hence the asthma diagnosis so young. She also has had conjunctivitis three times (which is a lot for an 8mo) and she was on antibiotics when about 4wks old because her 'milk spots' got infected.

I imagine it's very unlikely and I certainly don't want to scare you, but was she tested for CF at birth? I guess it's a routine test in hospitals now.

Very unlikely, just perhaps something worth asking about at the next visit.

Gracie123 · 04/04/2011 22:32

What's the test? If it's routine, she's had it. She's had all the standard stuff.

it's a heel pin prick test. it's poss to be missed with that test but it's used to screen for CF.

Gracie123 · 05/04/2011 07:42

He definitely had the heel prick test. I remember she cried about it a lot. Sad
