Red rash on DDs face - but no other symptoms. Fifth Disease?

My DD was a little flushed after playing out yesterday afternoon, but she had been running round so we didn't think much of it.
This morning she woke up with a red lacy rash on her cheeks. The rash has become denser looking and very slightly puffy looking as the morning has passed. Her cheeks feel hot and are a but itchy, but she doesn't have a fever.

She has no other symptoms except a sore throat and headache - but we've all been having colds so that may not be connected. She did have one night of a raised temp about a week ago.

I think she may have Fifth Disease - but no next to nothing about it. Please can anyone give me some advice on where to go from here. What else should I be looking out for?

TIA

Sounds like it could be slapped cheek alright, you needn't do much, they just feel a bit under the weather as in a cold IME. Its very common in children, just watch out for pregnant people!

Thanks plusonemore, we'll just keep and eye on her and hopefully it will disappear soon.

i have had chronic parvo after catching it from my then 6 year old. They often have asymetrical rash on face, neck and a red ear. Sometimes a high temperature and just generally off colour for uo to ten days. Best treatment is calpol or ibuprofen syrup.

you arent pregnant are you?

piprabbit · 03/04/2011 22:48

Thanks alypaly - no I'm not pregnant. She's is not quite so dayglo pink today, just patchy with a couple of areas of rash on her chest as well. She forgets about it until I remind her...

From what I've read, once the rash appears she is not contagious and can go to school. Do you think that's right?

Thanks again.
