Dd is 6m. She had her first jags at 4m rather than 2m becaue of a computer problem at the surgery and then 2 viruses and wine flu.

So, she has had her first two sets of jags and was due to have the next lot last week but I cancelled because she had a truly horrible cold. Problem is they're rebooked for tomorrow and she still has a horrible cold and has been v v grumpy (also teething).

I know they say to vaccinate unless high fever but I feel so sorry for her with this cold and think her body is fighting enough.

What should I do?? If I don't do it tomorrow it'll be in 12 days so she won't be all that far off 7m. Obviously I don't want to put her at risk, she is in the company of a lot of people a lot of the time but I just want to let her get over her cold first.

Am sick of these jags!!

I always cancel the immunisations if DS is under the weather, I don't think its fair to put them through that when feeling ill even if it is still safe to do so. The nurse at our practise won't do them when ill anyway.

He is 16 months and still not had his 13 month injections, hopefully he will get them next week.

I know but I'm worried I'm putting her at risk if I delay....

This has happened to us too, i always cancel if my DDs are ill.

DD2 has just had her MMR today at 15 months old. Should have had it at 13 months but had one illness after another! I was worried about putting her at risk too especially as we kept getting letters through saying how measles in on the increase here. I just did what i thought best and hoped we would be ok!

it's your call - I don't think there is any medical reason for delaying (as GP has said - only a high fever would constitute that) but you would have to deal with her misery. It's only a couple of weeks or so.

Hassled · 30/03/2011 21:32

Agree it's your call - I don't think a couple of weeks' delay constitutes putting her at risk, and if you're going to be anxious and fretting because she's not herself then probably better for both of you to wait.

haudyerwheesht · 30/03/2011 21:49

Yes I know its only a couple of weeks but they're already much later than they should be iyswim.

Hmmmmmm

Just tell me what to do!!! Will wait and see what she's like in morning...

"they're already much later than they should be " They're just guidelines. They don't have to be done at a set time. If she's fighting something off give her time to recover and then get them done.

ronshar · 30/03/2011 22:01

I would not take my child for jabs if they were unwell.
I have safely dragged three children through their first year of life and only one of them actually had any of her jabs when she was supposed too.
Number three didnt get mmr until he was nearly two!!

Do what you feel is the best thing for you and DD. If you are worried then restrict who you mix with and stay in as much as possible until DD has recovered.

haudyerwheesht · 30/03/2011 22:03

Cheers for advice. I'm kind of thinking that myself....my dh would get them done come hell or high water though so I think he thinks I'm putting them off just because I hate taking her!!!

Staying in isn't easy with ds who is 4 and in nursery this week then off for 2 weeks so will need worn out enterntained.

I know that problemGrin
That is probably why DS is always ill now!!!
