WWYD DS tiredness

My DS has always slept brilliantly. Slept through at 3 months napped for 2 hours morning and afternoon. Then around a yr changed to long late morning nap. Then dropped that nap altogether when he was about 2.5yr. He is now almost 4 and recently spends all day complaining about being tired. He looks exhausted with huge bags under his eyes. He sleeps for about 12 hrs every night and occasionally bobs off in the car for a quick 20 mins during the day.

DH thinks we should take him to the Drs and get him checked over but am just unsure whether I will get laughed out of there.

Bit of GP back story, took 4 months before GP would recognise my other DS had an asthma problem with a recurring cough. Told me when I went with mastitis with a 6mth old that BF had no nutritional value beyond 6mth also that BF caused me to have sore weak wrists as BF had depleted my calcium store. ALso the last visit I had I spoke to him about a weird recurring same time every month itchy vagina, he told me I must have chlamydia.

SO as you can see I dont have much faith in the GPs at my surgery.

What would you do take him for a check up and risk being told to go away or just wait a little while see if he perks up in another few weeks. This constant tiredness has been going on for about a month now.

A goes through phases of this as well. She does play like a loony though, I'd be tired as well if I did half the running about that she does.

How about a quick call to the HV, if the GP is crap?

DS is nearly 6yo and still naps during the day at weekends. Obviously he can't sleep during the day when he's at school and it's a real struggle to get him to stay awake after school sometimes. He also sleeps 12 hours at night. I'm hoping he grows out of it soon as it can be a real pain trying to plan things around his nap at weekends. If he doesn't sleep then he gets grumpy beyond belief. He is well and healthy in every other way, just a real sleepy boy!

If you're worried though you should get him checked out. You can change your GP surgery if you are not happy with the care and advice you've been given in the past, it's really easy to do. I also did this about a year ago and it was really easy to register with another surgery. I just said to the new surgery that I was unhappy with the care I'd received and wanted to change. They contacted my old surgery for me and transferred by records so I never had to see or explain to my old surgerey why I was moving. Hth
