10 mo covered in acne

My 10mo dd's face is covered in bright red spots, she has quite a lot around her mouth and chin which could be associated with dribbling/teething but they also extend up around her nose and eyelids.

The gp said it's more common in boys but still normal and not linked to the swelling she has behind one of her nipples.

Just wanted to know if anyone else out there has a spotty baby of a similar age and if you've discovered anything that may help reduce the redness. I've tried Avent's Magic Cream which seemed to calm it down at first but it's getting worse again.

TIA

Could it be eczema? Sorry, I'm no authority on this sort of thing but friend's baby has similar and it was eczema. I think she stopped having dairy which helped a bit. also avoiding any perfumed creams or lanolin in anything.

Thanks Ingrid, I was wondering that as she rubs her eyes a lot. We don't use anything on her except sudocrem and this new Magic Cream and nothing on her eyes.

We think she may have some food intolerances, could eczema be linked to that?

Absolutely. As I said, dairy, but maybe wheat or something as well...have you asked anyone about this? It's important not to start cutting stuff out too much without doing it properly.

Stop the sudocrem and anything apart from aqueous cream imo - hopefully someone will be along in a bit who knows their stuff but anything with chemicals in is a risk for eczema and could be making it worse.

We actually talked to her a member of her consultant's team yesterday as she was born with a congenital defect in her bowel which required surgery after birth. However we didn't really talk in depth about the food intolerances and starting to cut out foods and there was no mention of her skin.

Can intolerances just develop at any stage? She has regular diarrhea and can't tolerate any jarred baby foods but the dr seemed to be happy with keeping up the blw and a varied diet.

Gosh it sounds like you have some complicated things to deal with. I'm sorry not to be more use. I hope there are people with the relevant experience who will be able to advise you.

Good luck with everything Smile

Ingrid no thank you, you've been really helpful. I think I'll start investigating so I can go to the gp armed with some info and get a second opinion. :)

DD2 had baby acne though she was younger than 10mo (possibly 4-5mo). I despaired of her previously peachy smooth face ever being 'normal' again, she had it all over her cheeks and forehead like a teenager :( In her case it was just one of those things that babies sometimes get, we didn't use any creams, and it gradually passed. Not keen on those baby photos though Hmm

peeriebear thanks, she had it when she was about 6 weeks as well for a couple of months but it passed. Now it's returned and even worse, fingers crossed it will just pass like your dd. I'm not keen on her photo being taken atm Blush and we've been putting off getting some professional ones done.
