Nasal polyps - should dd have tests to find out why she gets them?

just after advice really - dd7 has had problems with her nose for about 3.5 yrs. Initially she had her nasal lining scraped away under GA as it was very thickened causing obstruction. Since thenshe's had nasal polyps . She's been taking sodium chromoglycate nasal spray, which isn't controlling it at the moment.

My worry is that, having googled nasal polyps in children, it seems to only occur with other conditions such as CF. My dd is completely fit and healthy apart from this nasal problem, but should the cause be investigated a bit more?

We have seen an ENT consultant for the initial op and then 2 years later when she had been having more problems - the latter time the nasal congestion had been resolved medically before the referral came through.

We moved into our new build house when dd was 6 months old. - since being here my dh has also developed sinus problems, so I also wonder if there could be a case of sick building syndrome .

I would appreciate any help - at the momentshe has a loud recurrent sniff which comes on when her nose is blocked, and I think it's causing some disturbance at school

Are you still seeing the ENT? I would ask him/her what they think as to the cause and take any advice they give. I suffered terribly with sinus problems as a child. I had 13 operations to remove polyps from both upper and lower sinuses but although I still have recurrent infections I strangely havent had any polyps since I was 13ish (i'm now 30). I had several blood tests, saw immunologists and had a load of allergy tests but we never found the cause. Big hugs for your DD, I remember feeling pretty crappy at times. And good luck to you, push the docs to sort her out. And DO NOT Google!!!

Yes, if offered by your consultant she should definitely have testing to find out the underlying cause, although hopefully it is nothing like CF or PCD (where the cilia malfunction which could explain the nasal issues she has had). Maybe get the consultant to put your mind at ease and ask if there is any significance to her problems? Like Noodlesmam says, stay away from Dr Google. Good Luck!
