19mo, fever, rash and lethargic - any advice?

DTD has got a fever in the high 38s (she is prone to a high temp when she's ill), is quite lethargic, and has a rash covering the whole of her torso. She's also dribbly and streaming with snot - but I don't think it's just teething, as she's never had a rash when teething before.

She doesn't seem to have any pain, although she's got no appetite. I did try to get her to have some yogurt and she threw it back up, but I think this was partly because she's so snotty she's swallowing some of it.

Any advice? I don't want to ring the out of hours doctor unnecessarily, but she's not had a rash like this before, so I'm not sure if it's something I should be calling them about.

Sorry I should have said, yes it blanches under a glass. She's had it since yesterday evening, but it does seem to be covering more of her body than it was earlier on.

Definitely get her to the out of hours doctor. There are loads of viruses that cause rashes, and it does help for them to be diagnosed.

skiboo yes it's pinprick sized. She had chickenpox on December, so it's not that again (fortunately, twins with chickenpox was hard work!).

belgo missed your response, sorry. My GP tends not to do anything if it's viral, just sends us away till it gets better, which is why I wasn't sure if it's worth bothering with.

I think I'll give them a ring with symptoms and see if they want to see her.

Thanks for the advice!

yes it probably is viral but there are also rashes that can be caused by other things, it's best to get her checked.

such as scarlet fever, but that is unusual (and easily treatable with antibiotics).

Just a quick update, out of hours nurse asked us to go straight in (scared me a bit, asked how quickly we could get there Shock), but she's fine, it's just a virus.

Apparently a baby in our area recently died of meningitis, so they are sort of on high alert to any symptoms (even though we only ticked the fever with cold hands and feet box).

Anyway we're home now and DTD is having a little nap Grin
