Hi I'm new, As you can tell from my title I'm a little bit mad and enjoy a giggle!

But on a serious note any advice on my LO?

Basically on Thursday morning around 4am Shock my daughter woke me up saying her ear was wet. I told her to lay on the other one and get some sleep, she did as asked. Looked at it in morning and it was caked in wax, all down her neck and in hair as well as ear.
She's had no pain or minimal pain, There is no temperature but now 3 days later and its still leaking! Not as bad as the initial explosion on Thursday morning but enough to notice and you can see it!

Is she loosing her brain (this is a joke as in hahahaha joke) or any one able to shed some light on the problem?? Confused

Burst ear drum probably ime.
You do need to get her to the gp to have antibiotics, and it checked out. They may want to take a swab of the wax to check infection. Ds has had it 5x this winter. He doesn't usually seem to be in pain (was on the last time but not the others) and hasn't had temperature.
My gp likes to see him quickly, so if your surgery isn't open today then take her to out of hours. The gp described to me as they have a raw hole in their head so infection can get in.

It's an ear infection, she needs to see a doctor.

Has she had earache at all?

It sounds like an ear infection where perhaps the eardrum burst on Thurs morning to me

Though normally this is described as having 'excruiating pain' Confused

In this type of ear infection you often don't feel pain.

plopplopquack · 26/03/2011 08:06

Woah! She should have seen a dr pretty quick!

Bugger my GP surgery wouldn't see her, The HV said she was having a 'ear clear out' nothing to worry about and I hate the out of hours surgery!
Last time they made my son sick and made me get down on my hands and knee's and scrub the floor!!! with my son who had a chest and throat infection and a temp of 41 after calpol!!

Its the no pain thing that didn't have me worried. Like one of you said if burst ear drum its meant to be very painfull. And trust me when I say my daughter is a drama queen (4 going on 16) If it hurt we'd ALL know about it! Love her to bits might I add!

Thanks for reply guys. xxxx

plopplopquack She's always had very waxy ears and also she's been blocked up after a severe cold. I just assumed the HV knew what she was talking about with the 'clear out' advise!

I had lots of ear infections when I was little. I burst my ear drum when I was about 7 but I never felt it, it felt like just another ear infection.
We only found out a few months later when I was having my ears checked and the doctor saw it but it was well on the way to healing up.

Maybe I should wait to see my regular doctor so it can go on her records! she's meant to be having a hearing test soon but since this leakage her hearing is much better :)

Plus I really DO NOT trust the drop in clinic! They are rubbish! And cant access her full records. Ok for emergency but no pain, no temp I reckon I'm safe to wait.

Or am I?? Oh dear! Every one I speak to has conflicting advice :(

My DD had a really bad ear ache and high temp when she was 5. I rang the docs and got put throught to the nurse. She dismissed me completly saying it was just ear ache. Two days later she woke up feeling a bit better but with a constant drip running from her ear. The doc fitted her in straight away and had a go at me for leaving the ear ache! he said the infection had built up and burst her ear drum. He gave her anti b's and we had to go back a month later for a hearing test, which was fine.

I was amazed by how much "stuff" came out of her ear we had to put a big head band round her head to hold cotton wool over her ear.

Not much help really, just that the doc said she needed anti b's to stop the infection "progressing any further". However, as I say she did have a reallly bad ear ache/high temp before hand.
