When to start sunscreen?

We've just had 3 days of glorious sunshine. It's only March but I'm thinking I should be using sunscreen already on the children, especially if they're out for a few hours midday. I can't find any advice about when the sun is of a strength to start using creams. Anyone got any facts or opinions? Thanks!

Give them half an hour before 10am to get their vitamin d, then slap it on, even in March

All I can say is we got a letter from dd school yesterday about sending in sunscreen and hats.

(she is in a special needs school though so am unsure if because maybe some of the children particularly susceptible to the sun or they are being extra cautious)

Thanks. Not sure why I'm deliberating about it. Should just go with gut instinct and use it. I did give DS a half hearted application this am! Will do so under cover from DP who thinks I'm overly paranoid about it even in the summer. He of course sports a sore red hue most of the summer from lack of protection!!

On another note my DS is in reception so first year out of my control all day! Does anyone have an opinion on the all day sun creams?
