This morning DD who is 8 said her tummy was a little bit sore and that last night she had a little bit of red blood on the tissue when she went to the toilet in the night, I was already in bed asleep (the joys of being 32 weeks pregnant -8pm bed times) and she didn't want to tell her dad.
She wasn't sure where the blood had came from, it could have been that she had been to the toilet and bled a bit from her bottom but I am worrying that it could be the start of her periods, I was an early starter at 9 but I think it was more to do with me being overweight as my mum and sister didn't start until they were 13-14 and DD is not at all overweight.
DD is aware that women have periods, that they are nothing to worry about and what to do if it happens, I made sure of this because I was terrified the first time because I didn't have a clue what was happening. She went off to school fine this morning but now I am worried that if anything happens she wont tell anyone. Sad Hope it isn't the start of her periods, my little girl is too young to have to deal with that for the next 40 years.

It does sound like the start of periods.

Has she got some sanitary products with her at school? does she know what to do if it happens again? Can you give school a call and talk to the teacher so she knows what to expect?

And I would make an appointment at the doctors just to get her checked over. I think anything from age 8 up is considered normal now, allthough 8 is at the earliest end of the spectrum, so wirth having her checked over.

Just a thought could she have torn the hymen a bit through cycling, horseriding, general energeticness? Otherwise, a urine infection could be a poss if she has stomach ache I wouldn't assume periods in a slim 8-yr-old.

Thank you for the replies, I did say I would mention it to her teacher but she said she didn't want me too. I gave her a pad to put in her bag just incase and told her that if she needed me to tell the teacher and I would come into school and we agreed that I would not talk to the teacher about it just yet but if anything happened today we would. I am just so glad that I have talked to her about it before so she doesn't seem that bothered, think its upsetting me more because I can remember how awful it felt when I started and didn't have a clue what was going on.
She doesnt seem to be constipated but that was my first thought pixie, will see how she gets on today.

Could be a UTI I suppose, she has had a few in the past.
Lancelottie she hasn't been on her bike for about 2 weeks and no horseriding or anything.
Will have another chat with her after school.
