DD still has cradle cap even though she is 3. was always hoping it would sort itself but doesn't and it doesn't look glamorous on gorgeous DD :o

can anybody recommend a good shampoo to get rid of if?

TIA

discovered dentinox yesterday
no cure as yet but seems promising

i used dentinox cradle cap shampoo on my DS's when they were younger and it worked brilliantly.

Nothing worked for us (including dentinox and T-Gel) until we tried Head and Shoulders about a year ago. Cleared it right up.

this stuff worked better than the dentinox for my 3dc

thanks everybody. think I will give dentinox a shot and see how we get on!

I found that the shampoos didn't help much. Gentle use of a nitty gritty comb was fab. In fact two jobs in one. A quick nit check and dry skin/cradle cap removal all in one go. Really worked for us. :)

Olive oil and a nitty gritty comb or pick it off.

CrystalStair · 24/03/2011 15:52

Olive oil was what worked for us. Extra virgin of course, especially for Christmas babies.

cheapFlower · 24/03/2011 16:04

we tried olive oil but it doesn't really help - cradle cap keeps on coming back in now time... also DD absolutely detests having her hair combed/brushed. don't think she would let me get near her with a nitty gritty comb.

We've found Oilatum shampoo brilliant for it. DD3 (7) still suffers occasionally, but it clear it right up, and smells nice. Our Sainsburys has just stopped stocking it though, but it seems to be around everywhere else as normal.

Here's a tip from my friend ..

Are you rinsing her hair after washing it with the bath water? If you are, the soap scum is building up on her head, which maybe the reason for the cradle cap?

My daughter had CC and my niece, friend told me to do one final rinse with clean warm water from the tap and it went on both of them within a few weeks?

Worth a try, or try Burts Bee's Baby Cream, smells yummy and really good for skin?

Good Luck!

We've always rinsed DD's head with clean water when washing it and she is almost 2 and still has patches of cradle cap.

When she was a few weeks old, she had it right down to her nose! (Family monobrow to blame). We used olive oil which helped (and Dh and I fought over who got to rub it off her when she was sleeping!)

Trying Dentinox just now as I tried to loosen the current batch with a comb and although I can get patches off, it takes hair with it, and she hasn't got that much!

Someone recently told me that in some cultures they shave babies heads at 18 months and rub olive oil in until their hair grows back in. I reckon that would have shifted it once and for all for DD, pity it isn't the done thing in the UK!
