my 5 yr old dd has been ill - stomach cramps & sickness since mon, sickness monday pm still ongoing. Vomiting every 6 or so hours now. I took her to gps yday to check it wasn't a water infection as she is prone, all clear on that front & gp diagnosed gastroenteritis. At that time the vomiting had stopped so thought the worst was over but that started up again. She looks awful, is sipping water, refuses diaoralyte. Any ideas on what to do, she won't eat dry food - toast, biscuits etc as her throat is so dry. Has sucked on an ice lolly for a bit but worried now it's going on so long with her not eating. thanks

Can't really help am in the same boat myself with my dd-been sick since last night, everything she tries to eat and drink, she can't keep down. She looks wrecked after only one day. Only thing that is working is sips of cooled Chamomile tea, and she kept down most of a fromage frais. Am waiting til dp get home with some lemonade and ice lollies-read that flat lemonade is good.

Don't worry about her not eating, believe me she will catch up once she is better!

You are doing all the right things. As long as she is going the toilet frequently, she is fine. If you think she is dehydrating try getting her to take the liquid from a syringe, 5ml every 5 mins. Thats what the hospital do now, and its just as affective as drip-rehydration. Hope she is better soon

Thanks for your replies, not been sick since this morning, still looks awful but so hoping she can at least manage a good nights sleep.

Hope she feels better soon, by tomorrow she might have kicked it. It's such a worry when they're ill.

Today didn't start off too well, dd was upset as feeling really poorly, wanted to be sick but couldn't but a few hours later was picking at some dry rice crispies. Very lethargic all day but perked up at teatime & refused her toast & had some fishfinger instead & hasn't been sick so far. So hoping she'll be feeling even better tomorrow. Just keeping everything crossed that no one else gets it, have a 9mth old & I have a phobia of vomiting.
