or should I stay home? 17 month ds is on day 2, seven spots, mostly scabbed but I guess more will appear. I've got school runs and a birthday party to organise. Do I have to stay home with him?

As long as you are outside and not in close contact with people. The problem with chicken pox is that women in the early stages of pregnancy and people with immunity problems should avoid it, so I wouldn't go shopping for example.

Is it women in early stages of pgy who have not had chicken pox or all women?

Definitely those who haven't had it. I have a friend who contracted CP when a few weeks pregnant and her daughter has growth retardation problems. The problem is that you can't tell if someone is in the early stages of pregnancy by looking at them. If you are desperate to get some groceries why not buy them online?

this explains it better than I can.

You should really keep him away from people, because you don't know who could have issues with contracting chicken pox.

Could you do an online shop for birthday stuff and get someone to help out with school run?

The point about pregnant women who have had chicken pox already is irrelevant ime. (it is whether they are immune or not that is relevant/important).

I personally have had chicken pox twice, and others on here have had the same experience. The second time I had it was 2 months prior to being pg with dd1. I was also in contact with it while pg and had to be tested. This has proved I am now immune. However I definitely was not immune after having it once.

Imo she should keep clear of people. You may assume that friends/family are not pregnant/not immune-compromised or whatever but not everyone announces they are pregnant or otherwise vulnerable.

You should stay home. Your DS could potentially pose a risk to immuno-compromised people, and also to the babies of non-immune pregnant women.

Please just stay in. Do online shop, call in favours etc
