HI ds has got scarlet fever. He has been on 4 day of antibiotics so far. He has now got a horrid cough which is sounding really chesty. His asthma has been made worse from as well. I took him to the Dr's and they said that they thought he had an infection but he was on the antibiotics anyway so he did not need any further treatment.
Yesterday afternoon he seemed better and was playing. Last night he was coughing so much he couldn't get his breath back and sounded and they was a lot of mucus stuck on his chest. This morning he isn't coughing as much and playing a little bit but is still not right, getting out of breath very easily.

I would go back to the GP first. I hope your DS feels better soon.

What inhalers is he having?

He should be having his blue inhaler at least every 4 hours, day and night, and continuing with his steroid inhaler.

If he isn't any better by the end of the week I would take him back to the GP and see if he needs a different sort of antibiotic.

Forgot to say there may be little benefit from having an x-ray.

never have an x-ray unless you absolutely need one - it is an unnecessary exposure to radiation.

If you are worried, take him back to the GP - he may need different antibiotics.

My dad, a radiologist, was very pissed off that ds (age c.7) was x-rayed twice when he fell and cut his head on the edge of a step. Hadn't even lost consciousness. Quite apart from anything, even if he had lost consciousness, an x-ray would have shown nothing and it should have been a CT-scan. Meant to complain comment to the hospital and suggest that the review their protocols/training for their A&E doctors but never got round to it. (I wasn't with ds at the time or I wold have questioned it)

Hi he is on lots of ventolin and is always on his steroid inhaler he also is on pred. He has just had a neb and is better. They always x ray him as he gets lots of phemionia. He can have o2 levels of in the 80's and still be bouncing on the bed. They can never belive how ill is when they see him.

Sorry - X-posted: the Mumsnet had initially claimed that it was off-line and to try again in 30 seconds, so I hadn;t realsied that it had posted.
