MY DD2 has just come downstairs and said "Mummy that banana medicine is tasty ",

I had just given her a spoon ful and popped downstairs to get something and put the medicine on her bookshelf. she must have spotted it, opened it and took a swig.

I have measured what remains and I would probably say she's had about 10 ml no more but that does mean she's had 15ml in one hour. She seems fine, should I be worried ?? Sad

Phone NHS Direct for proper advice.

0845 46 47.

what 444 said they can ring poisons helpline have her weight handy- they will probably ask you

I echo the above, but I wouldn't have thought that is enough to particularly have any adverse effects; which, if they do present will be diarrhoea and vomiting... The antibiotic will have an effect on the bacteria in the gut if taken in large quantities. But absolutely phone to be sure and probably have her drink small sips of water to flush her system

thanks everyone, fortunately she is fine, lesson learned for me keep everything extremely high out of reach, the anti biotic bottles you get from the chemist are not child proof, i feel so stupid ...

Err, the pharmacy is meant to change the cap to a child proof one. You need to follow this up with the pharmacy Shock

FourFortyFour · 19/03/2011 17:01

Amoxycyllin needs to be kept in the fridge iirc.

SwearyMary · 19/03/2011 17:34

Yep, it should be kept in the 'fridge and out of reach of children. At all times.
