Do you find there is a link between squash and bed-wetting?

Every time my 4 year old ds drinks squash he wets the bed.

At first I thought it was a coincidence, or maybe he was drinking more because he likes the taste (we normally just have water or milk at home).

But there have been a couple of occasions recently that i think can't be put down to increased volume.

Both times he has had squash early afternoon and still wet the bed Hmm

I tried him on squash without sweeteners at home and he still weed. ...

Anyone else find this?

Totally & Orange is worse than blackcurrant, it's to do with irritating the bladder

the ensure sis (bedwetting) specialist we saw said not to give dark coloured drinks as they can cause problems for some children. Sam with anything with caffeine, so no coke, hot choc, tea, coffee etc

damm that spell check! enuresis (I think anyway!)

That is interesting, glad it isn't just my ds.

So a drink about 2ish can really have an effect by the night-time?

Well it might not for some people but maybe your DS is sensitive to the irritants?

busymum34 · 21/03/2011 09:56

my Health Visitor told me dark coloured squash such as a blackcurrant is a bladder irritant, although this is opposite to what KatyMac mentions. I cut blackcurrant out of my sons diet and he didn't wet the bed again!

DS is definitely more likely to have accidents during the day if he has had juice of any sort, think it is partly the extra volume but partly the juice itself too. Now he gets a special "juice warning" whenever I give him it, to remind him to hurry to the loo as soon as he needs it!

The enuresis nurse we saw for DS1 said after 4pm to avoid everything except water. Particular irritants were blackcurrant squash, anything caffeinated including hot chocolate, anything fizzy including sparkling water; milk can apparently be an irritant in some children. So, yes, I'd cut the squash if you see a link, or at least stop in late in the day.

artifical sweetner , and perservatives are linked to night time wetting.

caffine as well.

go for organic, (preservative, colour and articfical sweetner free) cordials and fruit juice (not juice drinks)

and water. (its cheaper and kids dont drink enough of it!)
