temp of 38c
drowsy
irritable
confused
says her skin hurts?!

she is usually a very active child and today she's barely moved from the couch.

the temp started at 37c last night,so it's risen since then, she didnt sleep much last night and seemed/seems quite confused.

shes still drinking, nibbling on food and aware enough to watch a bit of octonaughts

shes 2.7years.

when do i inwardly start to panic then?

Mme Lindt - The NICE guidelines are great, obv for hcp but also for parents to refer to when concerned. Great link (trying not to sound patronising Smile)

FriggFRIGG · 10/03/2011 11:33

She seems to be perking up a little....

Ok - you are seeing GP at 12 still?

MmeLindt · 10/03/2011 11:46

VeryCherry
I have the chart in the medicine cabinet. I think that all parents should be handed a copy when they leave the hospital.

25goingon95 · 10/03/2011 12:03

I hope your DD is ok Frigg..
Poor thing. It is so worrying when they are unwell.

FriggFRIGG · 10/03/2011 12:39

hello,back from the doctors.
he was very blasé and made me feel like a right PFB.
her temp came right down after the ibuprofen/calpol combo.
anyway he said she has a minor ear infection, and thats about it really.
shes a lot more alert, but still disorientated and confused, and she's still saying shes tired although moving around a lot more.
but i guess if the doctor says shes fine,i should stop worrying shouldnt i.

thankyou all so much.Smile

I hate Dr's that make you feel like that!

My ds' temp came down with para/ibu but went up again - he appeared more unwell when temp was high, because temp was high iyswim.

He also ended up with a slightly red ear but no other obv cause.

Just keep an eye on the confusion/disorientation, that is not normal, and don't think just cos the Dr said its fine, it is fine, they are fallible too.

If she becomes more unwell do seek medical attention again.

FriggFRIGG · 10/03/2011 12:55

oh thankyou,i was starting to feel like a bit of a twit.

i think if she goes funny again i'll bypass the doc and go straight to A&E.

at least they might not make me feel like im over reacting Hmm

OP posts:
whysolate · 10/03/2011 13:05

I would prefer that they told me I was over reacting and that they reassured me than wait it out until it became a medical emergency.

Don't feel like a twit, Frigg. You were/still are concerned about your child. Perfectly normal imo. Smile

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 10/03/2011 13:15

We get shouted at if we turn up at docs with viral/vomitting type bugs because everyone else can pick them up.

I can kind of see their point but as a parent it's instinctive, you want to be TOLD it's ok.... Blush

They should build single isolation chamber thingys methinks Wink

MmeLindt · 10/03/2011 13:20

Meh at doctors like that. We had a great doc when the DC were little, he used to tell us to come in whenever we were worried, as he would rather see a child too often than too late.

Glad that she has perked up, but if you are worried about her, don't hesitate to go to A&E.

Cheese
The docs in Germany often have a door that leads from the street straight into an "infectious diseases room" so that you don't run the risk of infecting everyone else. They also have a separate waiting room for babies coming in for their health checks, ie. children who are not ill.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 10/03/2011 13:22

That's what we need lindt, contamination control Grin

winnybella · 10/03/2011 13:27

So how did the doctor explain the fact that she's confused?

Hmm. Glad she's ok, but still...

FriggFRIGG · 10/03/2011 13:29

He didnt,

didnt explain much IMO...Hmm

perhaps ear infection causes balance problem leading to confusion? (clueless but guessing)

i don't give a fig if a dr thinks i'm being precious about my children (they are my prrecious children!!!!)..i always err on the side of caution and it is better to be safe than sorry and you KNOW if your childs not themselves, so well done you getting them to the drs.

i have a dr who is so blanked faced and always leaves big pauses and said hmmm so what do you think we should do?.....perhaps he is trying to be more inclusive but by the time i have gone to the drs i'm at my wits end and i want them to TELL me whats going to happen.

this is the same dr who said lets wait and see when ds1 was 2 and had a big lump under his chin (like mumps) a week later i took him back and said you MUST do something i'm so worried, gave him AB for a week....nothing and then eventually refered him to paed A&E who scan the lump, said there was no pus so it was some sort of growth in his lymph nodes (thought i was going to have a fucking heart attack at this point) and immediately booked him in to have the lymph glands under his chin removed. I hate that bastard dr! (not all drsobviously but he was so blase gggrrrrr)

winnybella · 10/03/2011 21:45

How scary for you wideratthehips!

Yes, DS had a huge tonsil for ages, and the paed said it's fine, but then exdp took him to the hospital while on holidays and the consultant there started tlking about cancer. I, of course, had a heart attack, got on the train, DS had the OP, all fine, because the other tonsil was huge as well, just 'hidden' so they couldn't see it. Perhaps an ultrasound would have helped to avoid the OP?

Anyhow...hope she wakes up perky tomorrow. If you have any concerns during the night, just go to A&E.

I still find it strange- the confusion, I mean.

MmeLindt · 11/03/2011 09:24

How is she today, Frigg?

FriggFRIGG · 12/03/2011 09:23

sorry about the delay...yesterday she seemed better, but at lunch time, her fingers andlips went blue, and she was shaking.
i was ready to call 999,but my mum was there and gave her chocolate and put her coat, hat and gloves on,she started to warm up after a min or to,her temp went back up to 38 that afternoon at home.
it seems as though shes very sensitive to hot and cold environments, she isnt normaly.
today shes seems much better again, and has eaten a lot more.but im still a bit worried, and i'll be keeping her inside for today!
