Has anyone got any experience of warts?!

DS (5yo) has a couple of warts on his hands. The main one is on his thumb, just above his fingernail. He bites his nails (a habit I'm desperately trying to bribe encourage him to break) so his teeth are constantly irritating the wart.

The doctor gave me Salactol liquid to put on it once a day, which I've been doing for about six weeks now, but no sign of it shrinking or disappearing yet. How long do warts generally take to go?

My ds had one on this finger from when he had just turned 2 and it just went when he was 5.5, we got a testament (bazuka I think) and that got rid of it for about a week!!! It came back bigger after using it, I decided just to leave it to go away on it's own!

Testament!! Fek, treatment!!

Ds1 and dd have both had warts, ds on his toe, dd on her foot. We used Bazooka on them. Ds's took about 2w to go, but dd's took a lot longer - a couple of months,IIRC.

I, OTOH, have had warts/verucas on my feet in the past, which no treatment would ever shift. If it did, they grew back. I tried various salycilate remedies, had several 'freezes', but nothing worked. If I left them they just grew larger or multiplied. The only thing that totally eradicated them was going to a chiropodist who cut them out and sprayed liquid nitrogen into the resulting holes in my feet.

(I also developed blood-poisoning as a result, but I don't think that was his fault. I probably should not have walked home from the treatment wearing open sandals!)

Hi, I have a 6 yr old that started having warts about 18 months ago. Three visits to the doctor and we were eventually told she had dry skin and her itching would spread them. They are red, raised and embarrassing her. Any ideas how we can get rid of them. We tried a home freeze kit on one but did not work and upset her. They seem to be increasing. Any ideas please? Thank you

DD had a really big one on her toe. Our GP froze it off.

Warts should go without treatment (in most cases), i had some on my fingers which did'nt go, i had them froze (4 times) and they have never returned.

I had between 6- 10 on my hands as a child between the age of 7 to 15. I tried everything to get rid of them. Sometimes it worked, but most often it didn't. When it did work I would be without it for a few months but then a new one would pop up. Then when about the age of 15 they just all vanished and never came back. However not long after that I got numerous verucca on my feet. I assumed it was because I enjoyed swimming. Again these were treated, sometimes successfully but resorted to a trip to a doctor in my late 20s who froze them off. I have never had any since.

DD has a verruca on her foot. Verrucas and warts are just the same - only in different places! I have tried to remove it with that expensive stuff that you buy to freeze it off. It is rubbish and doesn't work. We are currently using some other stuff that you paint on every day which turns the skin white. The veruca itself is still there at the moment but what I think this stuff does is that it kills the skin and eventually it kills the veruca/wart and it comes off. The instructions say to do it for 2 weeks. We have been doing it for about 1 week so far.

My DD had a huge cluster on her palms about a year ago. One main one and loads of 'babies' that didn't even look as if they'd reached the surface - and I was really worried.
The doctor said to treat only the largest one with an over the counter remedy (think I used Salactol sp?) and they would go. He said the smaller ones feed off the largest.
I was very dubious and thought I'd been fobbed off, but sure enough, once the large one went, the others just vanished!
He also said to cover with duct tape at night as warts need to breathe. I didn't need to do this but maybe worth a try?

Just like to add my grandson (5) had a wart on his finger which grew bigger no matter what was used. More seem to appear over a time (about 2years) until he had about 10 in total on his hand. I had heard the tale of the duct tape so we tried it! We used the silver duct tape and put it all over biggest wart like a plaster. He kept it on all day then had DD take it off as was making his finger sweaty. A few days later it was noticeably smaller this went on until it disappeared altogether and shortly after the others did too! We couldn't believe it after paying a fortune in the chemist. They have not returned....fingers crossed.
