No dirty nappy for 24 hours!

Hello - does anyone have a similar experience? My 7 week old has suddenly stopped pooing! Since birth she's been pooing regularly and filling a good 6 or 7 nappies every 24 hours. Her last dirty nappy was at 4pm yesterday (over 25 hrs ago) and I've had nothing since.

Should I be worried? Or do I simply wait for the torrent to come? (never thought I'd be so eager to see crap!) What could be the cause? We've done absolutely nothing different that would warrant such a sudden change.

(I'm EBF by the way and am still getting wet nappies, just no bowel movements)
Thanks

Phew! Thanks both... I'm listening intently for a big 'explosion' and see what happens over the next few hours :)

It's perfectly normal for an EBF baby. Enjoy it while it lasts...my 5mo's teething at the moment and he's gone from one huge one a week to one every couple of hours!

my 6mth old did this for 1st time over the weekend didnt poo for 36hrs but normally went 2-3 times day well the morning after 36hrs had passed he went and def did several days worth or it seemed like it basically he was put in bath in pj's and they were peeled off in the bath

await the massive explosion!!

its not so much the frequency of the poo that is important but the consistency - if the baby is passing hard stools with associated straining may be an indication of constipation - particularly in formula fed babies - increasing fluids (water) usually helps but if it continues always see the health visitor for further advice :-)

don't worry mummycow, it's fine. my bubba suddenly decided to release only every 4 or 5 days Shock. I too was obviously concerned but then I read that basically it's another wonder of ebf - there's no waste with your milk so there's nothing to pass... all hail boobies and their life giving elixir I say!!

Pkam · 04/03/2011 20:53

Both my two would hold on for days whilst BF. When they went though there was no containing it. Once had to cut DD2 out of her clothes as she'd filled up her babygrow up to her armpits and there was no way I could pull it over her head! Smile

Curlysoo · 04/03/2011 22:00

cutting her out of her clothes? That is one of the best things I have heard in a long while, with that kind of enthusiasm for the job your dd2 should surely be nominated as our nation's next female leader... though perhaps without the 3 million unemployed at the end of her tenure Wink.

mummycow · 06/03/2011 21:39

Pkam that's SO funny, I laughed aloud! That's definitely a story you need to keep under your hat until you meet her first boyfriend!

My DD once went 12 days without pooing. When it came we nearly had to chuck the car seat (fortunately the covers washed OK) Shock
