Probable chicken pox in 8mo DD - do I need to go to GP?

I know chicken pox is really contagious, so I'm not planning on going to the GP unless others suggest I should. My 3yo DS has just had chicken pox - quite badly, he was very sorry for himself for 3 or 4 days and the spots only crusted over on day 7 - and now DD has spots. I'm planning on just staying here, but should I go to the GP for any reason? She's still trying to be her usual smiley self though obviously she's more fretful; the only thing I'm wondering about is the amount of dribble she's producing. I'm giving her paracetamol and PoxClin (which pharmacist says is safe for young baby; got it in anticipation when DS was ill).

Any thoughts?

Thanks Smile

Oh - another question - I've seen some posts suggesting that sometimes despite someone having had chicken pox, it's possible to get it again. Is that an age-related thing, ie because DD is only 8mo, might she still get it again when she's older?

If your DD has chicken pox don't go out to a dr's room and expose vulnerable people to the virus.

It is possible to get chicken pox twice - and sometimes it can manifest itself later as shingles.

when DD'd had chicken Pox I just phoned the doctor's to have a note put on thier records.

If she's still smiling you don't need to see the doc.

Most important thing is to control her temp which should make her feel more comfortable.

I think a mild dose of pox can result in getting it again as not enough immunity in system first time round but not particularly common (usually mis-diagnosis apparently).

Yes - I wasn't planning on going to the GP, knowing how contagious it is; with DS he threw up the first morning after we thought he had chicken pox and on ringing the surgery I was told that doc COULDN'T advise over the phone and we'd have to go in. I did say we thought it was chicken pox. So then we had to sit for over 15 mins in a surgery with amongst other people, a young baby. Great.

Anyway, thanks for the posts everyone - she IS still smiling and I've given her a bit of ibuprofen earlier when she was fretful. Hopefully she'll be over the worst in the next day or so.

Ds had CP at 5 1/2 months after dd passed it to him. I never took either of them to the doctor but did phone and ask for it to be put in their notes. DS went on to get childhood shingles at age 3 which is apparently more common when they get chicken pox before the age of 1.

Thanks for that info Seona - never heard of childhood shingles before but that makes sense. Not great from DDs point of view; I'd hoped that her having CP now meant she'd be in the clear from now on.
