I was at work. These things tend to happen when I am at work. I think if she has eaten a penny it will most likely pass through, no?

Dh is worried. Although not worried enough to have told me this at 2pm when I first came home.

Last night (when I was at work) they swallowed grenadine aka red coloured sugar syrup, just before bed. Oh joy. Today it is pennies Hmm

It's nothing to worry about then?

My eldest dd told me my youngest dd had swallowed a penny. I wasn't overly worried but rang nhs direct and they said i should take her to a and e! we went and she had an x-ray to find out she hadn't actually swallowed anything! sorry!

All OK?

I wouldn't worry about it. If she's not having difficulty breathing- which you'd know by now- it'll pass in nature's own way.

She appears to be fine. She has been to the loo and is breathing and eating just fine. It is very possible that she is lying, especially since she has informed me today that she has eaten a wild baby who now lives in her tummy, wears a party dress and is very naughty Hmm

We used to use a metal detector in A&E - honest. It was fun to use and no XRays needed. Check the poos for 2 days and if it hasn't appeared or any tummy ache contact GP or A&E. Kids!

The other thing is I think hospitals play way too fast and loose with Xrays. If you go to A&E, they're, in these potentially litigious times, more or less legally obliged to Xray. They'll do an abdominal Xray, esp a day or 2 after the event, but if there's nothing to be seen, they may then order a chest and upper airways up to the nose view. This gives the DC radiation to most of their torso plus to sensitive areas like eye-lenses and thyroids.

Far better avoided if possible!
