Nitty Gritty comb, lots of conditioner, every three days for two weeks.

Sympathies, we are dreading our first outbreak over here.

DeidreBarlow · 25/02/2011 19:50

We used headrin its quick only 15 mins and it was done. Although it will need washing out....

Followed by lots of combing!

tribpot · 25/02/2011 19:53

Hedrin, hedrin, hedrin. And then Nitty Gritty. God I hate the little buggers, it's just vile. If I could fumigate ourselves without obviously harming us I would do, I want Star Trek technology to come in and zap us all!

loobs2 · 25/02/2011 20:15

It's so annoying - I do use one of those Nitty Grittys for a thorough (or so I thought) comb-through on both children every wk - couldn't believe it when I spotted these critters tonight. And while I'm on a bit of a rant... why do these things always happen when DH is away?! Sad

Does he have a serious infestation, or just a few? I would condition comb with the nitty gritty for three days or until you get no live crawlers, rinse comb in jug after each comb through, go over the head at least twice each session, I have found a louse on the third comb through but not the firs two.

10poundstogo · 26/02/2011 00:28

Little bastards aren't they? DD has had them twice since xmas and this time we all have them! I'm actually thinking of getting her hair cut.

Do they live on bedding, hats, hairbrushes, hairties? - feel like binning everything!

We're getting over the comb-out tantrums with sean the sheep dvd's and a bit of chocolate...

Hi again - got the Hedrin Once gel yesterday, did DS first and then DD (who has got long hair!) as a precaution. Although the shampooing/conditioning/comb-through process meant this took all afternoon for both of them, I was impressed with the Hedrin - easy to apply, no evil smell and touch wood seems to have worked. Thing is, sales asst said to repeat in 7 days - but the Hedrin leaflet doesn't, so do you think I should just do the comb-through thing instead? Hmm

We've had multiple infestations here since starting Nursery! I've also been lucky enough to breed some too! Shock
Having used Hedrin and Lyclear and still having found creepy crawlers, I'd recommend LOTS of tea tree conditioner and then just comb, comb, comb!!!
Good luck- it's a real mission!!!!!

I've used vinegar on DD in the past when nothing else seemed to work. Pour the vinegar a few times through the hair then comb, comb, comb. Wash with normal shampoo afterwards to get rid of the vinegar smell. It's a lovely conditioner as well.

my dh went into the pharmacy and asked and they gave him the nitty gritty comb on prescription, so free as for dd - it was a lloyds pharmacy in bristol.

i have had 2 comb thru's and still itchy. horrid rash on neck which is apparently allergy to their poo (gross).

can you still be itchy even if they are gone?

loobs2 · 03/03/2011 16:00

Yes, apparently you can still itch for a while even after they're gone. Fingers crossed for our next comb-through tonight...

We have serious issues in my DS yr 2 class, one child not getting treated and so every afternoon he comes out of school and we comb through, the ones we pull off him are the biggest I have ever seen, half term had none back to school this week, 3 in the past 4 days. It is doing my head in, wish I could take the once spray and kill them on the offending child, you can see them from about 20yds crawling on her. Why are her human rights more important than my sons, school can't offend her, or touch her about them so my DS has a scalp that is really irritated by all the conditioner, hedrin and combing (he has a no 2 haircut even that won't stop them). Sorry rant over :)
