What can I give a toddler for a bad cough?

Probably being a little pfb here but I'm just wondering how best to help DD who is 2.5. It's 'just' a cough but does sound quite chesty and is worse at night. She will wake and lie there coughing for ages, just when I think she's about to fall asleep again she starts another coughing fit.

As far as I can see there's very little that you can give toddlers- it's either medicines with just glycerol, or anti-Bs, nothing in between. I have a GP appointment for her tomorrow (for something else) but don't really want A-Bs for her.

Hi there probably too late for you now but foe future I have a room steamer to keep air moist and I recently bought a calpol plug in thing from boots which also seemed to work well. Hope little one is better now and catching up on lost sleep!

Manuka Honey - expensive at over £5 a pot, but a spoonful morning and night works wonders and worth every penny.
