ds had bout of the d&v bug for 24 hours, but clean since wednesday.
Refused to eat anything but plain milk since. Really wobbly, can't walk, won't ask for toilet just does it where he's sat but well enough to boss his sister around, demand the telly on etc.
He does like a drama and I know he was properly ill but he is unwilling to even try eating. Have offered him chocolate, yogurts, mushy things, everything
Tried complan choc milkshake which tastes really nice but won't even try that.
Should I contact the doctor or just wait?
I feel so rubbish about it turning into an issue Sad

Have you tried the diarolyte sachets? They do them in blackcurrant and orange - they replace the vital minerals and keep dehydration up?

Don't slate me for this but....when it's a choice between not eating and eating rubbish, I've let DD have her favourite ice cream or cake or chocolate. You'll know yourself what it's like when you just don't fancy anything - you turn to something that you really want.

I'm not suggesting that you do that if you have a fussy eater, but as a one off it may just trigger his appetite again.

Good luck.

Try jelly - it's sugar and water so should give him energy and fluids. Also I had the same problem with my DD2 - the gp prescribed rehydrating ice pops (basically dioralyte in an ice pop that you freeze before eating). Not sure if you can get them in the UK but they're called Pedialyte Freezer Pops - went down very well and excellent for a quick hydrating boost.

I'm with Fluffy - give him whatever he wants for a couple of days, but remember how you feel after a tummy bug and eating isn't normally top of your list.

If he likes a drama, don't pander to him, wait for him to ask for sth and just offer milk / water. He's probably enjoying the attention (might be in training for man-flu in 20 years time Wink)

Had something similar recently with DD1 (just 7), She actually fainted in the end because her blood sugar was so low. What it took a friend to point out was that I was so anxious about her not eating making comments that she hasn't eaten properly for a week (even left sweets) and that because she is super skinny she doesn't have the reserves that most of us do, that she was basically enjoying the negative attention. In the end, I had to appear to ignore what she was and wasn't eating and miraculously over a couple of days, she began to eat and is now eating like a horse again. Whenever she said she didn't want to eat I just said 'Okey doke, no problem, get down from the table then'. Admittedly I was serving all her favourite foods to her sister.

My friend pointed out that DD had found a situation she could control and manipulate and was doing so to her full advantage. I had to pull it back, which was hard at the time as I was so worried about her not eating. I could always get her to drink milk to maintain her blood sugars. This may not relate to your DS in any way, but just thought I'd share my experience.

thanks everyone, yup been down the leaving choc buttons by the bed and he's not touching them, jelly, nothing. Geisha I think your experience is exactly the problem we have and I need to let up.Just debating whether to take him to the walk in centre or leave it.
