What's the best way to keep grommet ears dry when in the bath please?

Been prompted to post this thread because of the 'how often do you wash your child's hair' thread.... I never wash DD2's hair because I just can't work out how to plug her ears properly since she's had grommets in. Doc said to use cotton wool and vaseline, then presumably roll them into a ball and stuff into the ear, but they always fall out. Can anyone explain how to do it properly please? Or suggest alternatives? Thanks very much!

The only thing that worked for my DD was using the proper earplugs that we also used for swimming. We tried a few and the blue ones from Boots were the only ones that were comfortable.

I always used vaseline and cotton wool - just a small piece of cotton wool in a sort of cylinder shape.

Initially DD used earplugs and a neoprene head band. After about eight weeks of that, we went on to nothing.

DS uses the ear plugs from boots they are called bio ears he has them in the bath and swiming. We found that the cotton wall never worked.

Excellent, thanks everyone. Will keep an eye out for those bio ears - presumably they are the blue ones earwicga meant?

I seem to remember reading somewhere on here that someone used blutak?

By the way our doc said she wouldn't need earplugs for swimming?

I don't know if they were 'bio ears' or Boots own make now, it was a while ago. But they were pale blue and quite soft. I think I used to squeeze them then insert them, but after a while my DD used to do it herself as it was much easier.

No idea why your doc would say that.

Actually, thinking back I am pretty sure the case had the Boots logo on it.

He says the hole in the grommet is so tiny that water can't get in, it's soapy water that's the problem as it's got lower surface tension (is that the right word? Had to look it up).

I've no idea Schulte. I was told by the Consultant that earplugs were needed for swimming and hair washing. So did as I was told.

Meant to add - as the Consultant was the one who did the op, I assumed he was the one who knew best how to keep the grommet in place and working.
