My daughter (just coming up to 2) has a nasty bout of thrush on her bottom. Took her to the doctor on Friday who prescribed Daktacort. Have been using it properly, as directed. Her bottom is much, MUCH worse and it looks to me as though dd is having a bad reaction to Daktacort. Going back to the doctor at 11.30. What should I ask for? I don't want to use vaginal pessaries on her... Does anyone have a similar experience or any advice please?

Does she have any other symptoms?

LaLoose · 15/02/2011 08:44

Thanks for replying! No. Just the bottom thing. So she's a bit whingey and can't even manage to sit in the bath. Nothing else. It's so distressing to look at - I really feel terrible.

Has she had antibiotics recently? Coz if yes, then you need to give her probiotics. In fact probiotics should help anyway, dr might know or not.
Other thing that is good for fungal stuff is a zinc supplement.

Thanks for replying. Yes she did have antibiotics, but about six weeks ago now. What kind of probiotics, please?

Try a good health food shop, don't know for certain if boots do it but maybe yes; health shop staff should advise what suitable for babies, there are some.

A/bs destroy gut flora and you need to rebuild that, using antifungals is not going to do that, so it would flare up even if they temporarily worked.

If you want online then I buy this one

I wodnered if she had an infection - my god-daughter always gets thrush if she has a tummy/urine infection

Thanks everybody for the advice. I just really hope the doctor can help. She can't stop crying now, and is obviously in a lot of pain.

How did it go at the doctors?

MoonUnitAlpha · 17/02/2011 13:45

My ds had thrush nappy rash and daktarin cream improved things, but didn't get rid of it. Eventually we got Canestan HC (clotrimazole and hydrocortisone) and the difference was almost instant - cleared it up in no time.

I'm the other way around myself, I react to Canesten but I can use Daktarin/Daktacort.

Hello - sorry, got a bit busy at the end of last week. She was given another cream - Trimovert(?), which worked almost instantly. Canestan didn't work for her, Daktacort burned her skin (doctor said it wasn't the cream... but it was. I hate it when they rule things out that are perfectly obvious to anyone with eyes!) But she's almost completely better now. Thank you all so much for caring, and for the wonderful advice!

Sorry I can't spell the name of the cream - it's in her bedroom and she's napping now so I don't want to go in there to check it!
