eczema round the mouth?

DS had an outbreak of eczema last winter which took ages to clear up - so far this year no repeat but now it seems to have come back, but only round his mouth/on his chin. it looks angrier than before and think it must be getting irritated when he eats/drinks (in typically dribbly, messy 3yo fashion). we used cetraben before but not sure if it's safe to put round the mouth as he'll no doubt end up eating a fair bit of it - he keeps licking the eczema patch when it gets itchy (sorry for yuck factor).
does anyone have the same problem with dc and what do you put on it?

All 3 of mine get this to some extent at winter.

GP gave me some Aveno cream (I think that's what it's called).

Aveeno vote here!

Works for my severe eczema and my children's mild dry patches. Plaster it on regularly that is the key.

If the skin round the mouth is really cracked, i'd put vaseline on it also, to prevent food/dribble making it worse.

Avoid wiping faces with wetwipes, cos they're not as gentle as we're made to believe! they sting my very sensitive skin.

Another vote for Aveeno cream & Hydrocortisyl cream
[ can be bought over the counter] is very good for the face as its gentle

Also, keep him off citrus fruits, lychees, any fruit with lots of juice that can dribble onto the face, tomatoes etc as these can really trigger eczema around the mouth area!

Ds had this right round his mouth when he was younger (2 to 4yrs) it looked like he had bright red lipstick smeared around his mouth.

I deduced that it was oranges and tomatoes that was causing it so stopped them and any other citric acid type foods from his diet. Within 4 days, it had reduced by 75%. On talking to a friend whose Dd had had eczema from head to toe, she asked if Ds ate yoghurt; he did and she said to stop it which I did immediately. It took a further 4 days after stopping yoghurt and it had completely gone! I introduced each thing I'd stopped intermittently over a period of 5 or 6 years with at least 3 months inbetween and if he reacted, I stopped it again, until eventually, he could eat any and all of it.
