Tongue tie in a toddler

I think DS has tongue tie. There has always been something wrong with his mouth but I just didn't figure it out before. He can't open it wide and he can't stick his tongue out.

He's breastfed but from birth it's been painful - luckily now it's only once a day but still making me very sore so I was trying to encourage him to open a bit wider, but he simply can't. :(

Does anyone know whether they will operate on him (he's 2) at his age. I thought tongue tie stopped at one year because they just stretched the bits of skin naturally? Confused

Ds had a tongue tie and had it snipped at seven weeks. Unfortunately it didn't help his feeding (another story). I suspect they would only operate if speech or eating was an issue as by toddler age it would need to be general anaesthetic. From what I have read/heard from our surgeon there is a lot of variation due to lack of good evidence.
Sorry that's not very helpful. I think I have articles somewhere though. Will look for you and if i do dm you.

Sorry just realised all i had were paper copies and think they got binned. I do have a cracking picture of ds though if you want to see what tongue tie looks like.

Thanks hairtwiddler. I know what it looks like because my nephew had it. I am going to take him to the GPs tomorrow. :)

Thanks, our regional hospital is on that list so I'll see how we get on. :)
