this is hardly ever a problem for her: has weetabix breakfast, lots of fruit & veg. I think she drinks enough water (&sitll gets a bottle of milk at bedtime).

But she is straining so hard and obviously sore. Hard small stools when she manages. ONly the last 2 days.

She also gets raisins and I added some dried apricots this morning. She has gone off yoghurt for a couple of weeks.

Any ideas?

AS for refined carbs: dinners are pasta/ stews with rice or cous cous. Usually send a mini (home baked) muffin with to nursery.

No idea why this has happened.

Advice anyone?

When my DS had constipation at that age, the GP advised me that weetabix wasn't suitable at that age. I think it's because it's too dry and bungs them up.
DS was on lactulose for about 6 months because his constipaton kept recurring.

Really??No weetabix? We make it really soft with added (hidden ) yoghurt. What is a better alternative?

And how do you get lactulose into them?

That's what she said, I started giving him porridge instead. She said it was ok for my older child (who was 3 at the time). To illustrate her point she said 'have you noticed that it sets like cement when it's left in the bowl, well imagine that in the intestines'. I think the problem with Weetabix is that it needs a lot of fluid to help it move through the gut.
If it carries on, I'd take her to the doctor, and see what they say.
If it's sore, she might be holding on to her poo, making her more constipated. Also watch out for leakage - it looks like diarrhea, but it's actually liquid poo which leaks around the blockage.
We had no problem with giving him lactulose - it's very sugary.
I hope you get it sorted out - it's very distressing seeing them in pain.
