Hot arm and spots on 6.2 month old - help!

Really hope someone has had experience of this!

DS is just over 6 months old. He had a nasty chest infection almost a month ago and the Dr prescribed anti-biotics - amoxycillin.

DS had reaction - vomit, flushed cheeks and just generally not a happy boy. Stopped after one does, went back to the Dr two days later when things hadn't improved and he prescribed a different anti-biotic.

These worked, but mid-way through the does I noticed that DS's left arm would get red and quite hot, and his wrists and fingers became puffy. Wasn't bothering him, but mentioned to the Dr at the end of the course of drugs, and he reckonded it was just a reaction.

But it's happened a few times since - and it's been nearly a month since he had the drugs. Went back to the Dr and he prescribed Piraton - but I've decided not to give it as it's not suitable for under 1's.

For the last week DS has also had a cluster of about 6 smallish red spots to the left of his nose on his cheek. They don't seem to be going.

Last night he seemed to be wheezing in bed, but slept ok, and is fine today, just a few snuffles - but his arm is red again and his spots are still there.

We're weaning - mostly baby-led - but these symptoms pre-date this so I don't think it's food related.

Any ideas or thoughts much appreciated! I'll go back to the Dr if I have to but feel like I'm being a bit precious??

Thanks.

i think you need to confirm with gp, the doseage and then give DS the medication asap.

if there are any breathing concerns with this though, he needs to be reassessed urgently.

i would suggest a phonecall to the surgery, explain to receptionist the situation and they should arrange a telephone triage asap or for you to bring him there asap.

if breathing is laboured, 999.
