Is this conjunctivitis?

DD (2) woke with a bit of a crusty eye this morning, it wasn't stuck shut, just a few crusty bits on her eyelashes and her eye isn't red at all.

Is this the start of conjunctivitis? Or nothing to worry about? We're supposed to be going to a music class this morning, but wondered if she might be contagious?

it could well be. this is how ds2's started last week. i wasnt able to see a doctor on day 1, but on day2(when i finally got an appointment!), it was very pink and bloodshot in the corners even though there was very little 'gunk'.
our local pharmacy sometimes prescribes for minor ailments like conjunctivitis (in Scotland, not sure if they do this in england/wales) so might be worth popping in if you cant see a doctor.

it is contagious too, so be careful with towels and stuff until she is under treatment (assuming it is conjunctivitis). ds2 has just finished his eye drops today so am hoping and praying my big 2 dont end up with it now!

hope this helps. Smile

Thanks! She was fine this morning, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's going to be ok, but will take her to the pharmacist or GP if it comes back again.

My DD had exact same symptoms age 6 weeks so i hauled her to the dr who gave us drops to be administered four times a day for four days. Utter misery but i dutifully did so, only for the stupid infection to return the week after! This time i googled tips and tried squirting her eye with breast milk instead. Yes, nipple above eye, very comical, not quite as upsetting for her although still weird, but hurrah it completely kicked the infection into touch. Nature 1, Medicine 0.
