Need bit of advice, dd (9) crying in pain

My dd (9) has been having pain whilst passing urine since yesterday.

I left a sample in the doc today & they give her antibiotics this evening.

She had her first dose at 6pm.

About 30mins later she was rolling around on the floor crying in pain (She had complained of tummy pain before this, since she came home from school at 3pm)

And since then she is still crying her head off (she's not the crying type)

Dh says she's being a drama queen & putting it on (she's not, I know her)

So I called doctor on call, who said their next available appt was at 9.20pm. I have given her the meds the doctor advised on phone (calpol, as I didn't have any nurofen) but I then sent her to bed.

If she goes to sleep (highly unlikely as she's still wailing in pain) shall I cancel the appt? Or try & keep her awake to go to it?

Dh has gone to football but I think he would say I was over-reacting by calling the doctor.

She says the pain is high up on her stomach, above the belly button - surely not connected to the infection?

I'd pop her to A&E to be honest, it could be her appendix.

Go with your instincts but I'd keep the appointment.

My DH thought our DD was over reacting when she hurt her foot sledging. Like you, I know my child and I listened to my instincts and got her to A&E. Broken foot!

izzybiz · 10/02/2011 19:52

What abs are they? I was given some for a urine infection not so long ago and reacted quite badly to them.

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 10/02/2011 19:53

Yes I would keep the docs appt if I were you.

belledechocchipcookie · 10/02/2011 20:02

Sorry, distracted. Keep the doctors appointment, is she weeing OK?

FairhairedandFrustrated · 10/02/2011 20:12

Thanks all, yes she's still weeing OK although it's still burning.

The antibiotic is Trimethoprim.

Have text DH & he said he'll be home shortly, he "hadn't realised she was as bad as that."

Thanks for the advice.

They say that cranberry juice really helps. Cystitis is horrible though. I hope she recovers soon.

FairhairedandFrustrated · 10/02/2011 20:38

thanks Belle, I have been giving her cranberry juice too - anything that will help flush the stuff through :(

The pet, I hope it's just a bug - though to be fair since January it's been one thing after another with her.

It was Trimethroprim that I was given, I really felt unwell taking them, stomach pain, nausea, just generally awful, maybe see if she can take something else?

izzybiz · 10/02/2011 21:46

Just realised you'll be with the doc now, hope she's feeling better soon.

FairhairedandFrustrated · 10/02/2011 23:02

Doc said it was probably a ad infection & to double her dose of antiBs for tonight - Oh God I hope it's not a reaction to them or she'll be up half the night :(

Thanks for the support X

My DH was given Trimethroprim for a bladder infection and like izzybiz made him very unwell. I hope your DD doesn't have a reaction to them and will start to feel better on double the dose.

vmcd28 · 10/02/2011 23:12

Hope she's ok. If she gets worse, phone doc again - don't assume it's a reaction to the antibiotics, just in case. Your instincts have been right so far x

izzybiz · 11/02/2011 14:31

How is your Dd today Fairhead ?

izzybiz · 11/02/2011 14:32

Sorry Fairhaired Blush

FairhairedandFrustrated · 11/02/2011 20:23

Thanks everyone.

She was off school today, pains all day, and was crying really bad. She slept between pains though, so I just comforted her.

She hasn't been off her food or anything though & she hasn't been running to the toilet as much.

She's lying here rubbing her tummy, but no tears yet. The wee pet, hate it when the kids are ill :(

Oh dear, poor little thing.

Hope she's better soon.

FairhairedandFrustrated · 12/02/2011 18:04

UPDATE:

Was up all night in pain, she was in an awful shape.

Took her to A&E this morning & they changed the antibiotics - seemslike izzybizz she just had a reaction to them. They tested her urine again & the antibs hadn't even begun to work.

She had some new ones at lunch time then threw up all afternoon, God, I hope this isn't what's in store for me this weekend. I'm not the most patient Blush

Fingers crossed these new one work xx

Poor thing Sad
The reaction to those particular AB's seems to be quite common, I googled them when I had them and found lots of people have had similar reactions, some a lot worse too.

Hope the new ones will get her feeling back to normal soon. x
