first of all my lo has awful eczema, which she inherited from her daddy and it drives her crazy. she'd forever be scratching it if we let her, and its hard to stop her, especially at night because she pulls of her scratch mits and scratches so hard even carefully trimmed nails draw blood.

on her legs she's developed a rash where she's been scratching most energetically. best described as pimples, the sort you'd expect with facial spots teenagers get. its also around her neck and on her arms. i don't know whether to worry.

I've been to the doctors about it and was prescribed some emollient cream and hydrocortizone for the worst affected areas. i also bath her very briefly in aqueous cream because anything else makes it worse.

tried changing washing tabs and softener to something more baby friendly and stopped wearing perfume myself to see if that helps.

but still she scratches! and that rash is worrying me. help!

My daughter was the same, itching all the darn time. Cutting nails right down as far as you can can help a bit, but really you need to find out what is making it flair up so much. Could it be what you are eating if she's BF or what she's drinking. I'd say go back to the GP and ask for some different creams. My kids allergic to milk and eggs and well a few other things, she's 4 now and i mostly have her skin under control. She has had creams from the dr that have made her skin worse rather than better so i'd go back.
Good luck!

I'd say keep experimenting with creams. Many people try quite a few before they find one that has an effect. For us regular Doublebass had an amazing effect, whereas many find it useless. My DS did though react to ordinary aqueous cream, flushed his skin red and seemed to sting. Also in our case it turned out to be related to a dairy allergy.

with the food allergy things were there any signs i should look for in the nappy area?

also is the rash normal?

no it sounds to me as though the eczema may have got infected - that causes the pimply looking stuff I think. I'd take her to the gp as she may need a combined steroid/antibiotic cream

also I would stop using aqueous cream which many eczema people don't get on with. The best thing to bathe her in is oats - handful in a muslin, closed with a hairtie or elastic band, squeeze it under running bathwater. It will go all milky and soft - use that to wash her with. Honestly you'll be amazed how much happier her skin is.

i have to say the aqueous cream has made it flare u more! i'll try that oat bath, thank you

how are the oats going?

alypaly · 15/02/2011 16:37

you probably need some fucidin cream. it sounds like its infected

skydance · 15/02/2011 16:42

It sounds like it's infected, that's what the little red pimply bits are.

GP should either give antibiotics or fucidin cream.

Get some different cream while you're there as well don't be fobbed off with aqueous cream, most people find it makes excema worse, we have Dermol cream and also Dermol bath.

her skin is much better now, the rash is faded and clearing up, the weeping areas are dry and almost gone now. i've been given dermol and some mild steroid creams plus some penicillin medcine. also i give her oat baths, the combination seems to have helped a lot, shes just a bit dry now bless her but scratching far less!
