as any one experience of a toddler losing weight due to their asthma? i wrote last week on here on the bronchiolitis thread. my son is nearly 16 months old, has probable asthma has 2 puffs 100 brown morning and night and blue two puffs then and whenever. recenntly he has had that awful coughing virus that lead to a chest infection before christmas and another one last week- since before christmas he has been off his food, last week he wouldnt eat and hardly breast fed (think he had bronchiolitis condition). his specialist wanted his weight to be sent to her so he was weighed today and he has dropped back down to his weight he was in october- going form nearly 91st to nearl 25th centile.
i saw the good hv whom has an asthmatic child (she actually leaves next week)- she was very angry with the gps and think my son should have been ng fed last week and is unhappy wiht the gps service etc. she is reinging my sons specialist.
she did say her son ;ost weight with asthma and has never really been able to cathc up again.
i dont know what to do- today ive tried to feed him as much as i cna but he refuses throws food and wont open his mouth- ive got into him 4 spoons of baby food- one mouth of corned beef and a suck of a chocolate bar ( i tried baby food as i thought maybe that might tempt him). am so worried- to top it all his blood test resulats come back today and the receptionist wouldnt give me them- so i know he must still be anaemic too.
someone hold my hand and tell me he is ok.

Ds loses weight (or doesn't gain) when his asthma is bad because he won't eat, but in-between he eats well enough for it to not be an issue.

He has only been ng fed when he was 8 weeks old though and couldn't feed at all. Whenever we have been in hopsital they dont mind him not eating to much although like him to eat a bit before discharge. Its the fluids they monitor.

Ds is always better with finger foods when ill

My ds is 9 months and has an inhaler. I'm always wondering if his coughing/ wheezing is linking to his feeding issues. He's dropped from the 75th to 0.4th centile and when he's bad goes for days without eating. Recently he didn't eat for 8 days and I was shocked that this was seen as ok. They were interested in fluids (I had to syringe feed every 5 min or drip, I chose the syringe). Got a referral now to wait for but I've noticed he pants on the bottle and eats less when he's coughing or wheezy. The HV suggested the inhaler before bottles and it works, to my surprise.
