colic and projectile vomiting

Hi,
my 7 weeks old breastfed DS has shown what I thought were signs of colic over the last 2weeks, however then also vomited 3 times over the last 2 days after a feed and a very forceful burp (looked like he brought up the milk he was just fed, but spit it further beyond my shoulder when burping him). I thought symptoms of colic do not include projectile vomiting? Is that correct and hence do I need to worry that there is something else wrong with him? Thanks!

Colic is a meaningless word, mainly used to describe an upset baby.

Reflux is too much acid in the stomach and a weak lower oesophagal sphincter. The symptoms of reflux include pain on feeding and vomiting up feeds. This can be treated by antacids (ranitidine) and food stabilisers (normally gaviscon).

True projectile vomiting can be caused by pyloric stenosis (thought normally manifests between 3-5 weeks) which is a narrowing of the outlet of the lower stomach to the intestine. This requires an operation to correct.

I would take your son to the GP (or paediatrician) to get him checked out.
